I paint and draw people, strangers, conceptual characters, and individuals on the fringe of societal norms. My images are a culmination of the physical characteristics of my subjects and my impression and reaction to them. I draw and paint directly onto the surface with no preliminary sketches going back and forth with various mediums and working on many images simultaneously. I strive to create self-expressive and emotionally driven images, using opaque and transparent pigment, detailed and less controlled drawing methods, and spills, splashes and drips to provide a variety of mark making. My works are close to actual size and put the viewer face to face with the intention of coercing the viewer to look a bit longer and consider who my subjects are.

My goal through the work is to create an image that draws the observer in, surprises them, and presents unlikely scenarios to observe and consider. I believe we grow emotionally, socially and intellectually best, when we surround ourselves with people who look, think, and live differently.

"The figure is still the only thing I have faith in in terms of how much emotion it's charged with and how much subject matter is there." - Jim Dine
